SideMiniSideMini alternatives, compared honestly
Every tool here is good at something. Three of them are free, and for plenty of setups free is the right answer. This page exists so you can tell quickly whether you need to pay us anything at all.

When not to buy SideMini
- You sit in front of the Mac and connect the iPad now and then. Sidecar is free and takes four clicks. Use it.
- You only want the Mac to stay awake. Amphetamine is free and excellent at that. Server mode is worth paying for when you also need power-cut recovery and a usable Screen Sharing picture.
- You need Windows or an Android tablet. Duet covers those; we never will.
- The Mac lives in a cupboard you will never open. Luna Display’s hardware path is more robust than any software approach, ours included.
- You are comfortable scripting. SidecarLauncher plus a launch agent gets you part of the way for nothing. It will not solve the headless case, but it may be all you need.
Where SideMini is the better answer
Two situations, both awkward for everything above. A Mac mini or Mac Studio with no monitor at all, where Sidecar silently fails and a dongle costs fourteen times more. And a Mac that must be awake, reachable and self-healing around the clock, where the awake-only tools stop at the first power cut.
